It doesn't seem like 5 minutes since the last 1st Thursday, and here it is again!
So, on Thursday 2nd July, show your support for the town and our fabulous businesses, by getting into Rugby from 5pm to enjoy street food, entertainment and fabulous in-store offers and activities from some lovely shops.
Remember, 1st Thursdays is all about helping pump money back into our local economy, by getting people into the town centre to spend money in our local shops.
Not all shops are able to open on 1st Thursday - some of the big chains need a certain amount of money spent in them in order to be able to afford to open, even for just 3 hours, and sadly they didn't achieve their targets during the initial events, so will now be closed. We're now concentrating all of our efforts on making 1st Thursday really great in the area where there are more shops that can stay open (Churchside Arcade, Church Street, Bank Street, Castle Street, Albert Street and Regent Street) so that's where the hotspots will be. You'll find all of the street food at the end of Castle Street, as well as children's Archery, and there'll be a great artisan food and crafts market in Jubilee Gardens.
Don't forget that Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, Rugby Visitor Centre and New Look will be open too, so take a stroll around the town to visit them. There'll be a great Drink & Draw event on until 9pm in Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, so you can do a bit of shopping and then go and join in the event.
Long term, we hope that 1st Thursdays will get so many people in to town, and enjoying the shopping experience, that the other shops along the High Street will want to open too. Once that happens, we'll be able to get more hot spots going around the town again, and make the event even bigger.
Have a great night!
1st Thursday is here again, and the sun has come out especially to help us enjoy it!!
The event will be consolidated around just two hot spots this month - Jubilee Gardens and Castle Street. This is the area where there's the biggest cluster of open shops, so you can wander between hotspots and enjoy some great 1st Thursday shopping and promotions on the way.
Shops and bars will still be open in other parts of the town though, so don't forget to go to Rugby Art Gallery and Museum and Visitor Centre, New Look, The Rugby Tap Room, Churchside Arcade and Bargain Booze - all of whom will be doing something for 1st Thursday.
There'll be musical entertainment at both hot spots, and you'll find all of the street food at Jubilee Gardens, with children's Archery and an artisan market over at Castle Street.
There are loads of promotions running in the shops - pop over to the Facebook page Love Rugby Town to have a look at all of the different things that are happening.
Parking will be free in the North Street and John Barford Carpark from 4pm, and the car parks will be open until 10pm. Obviously on street parking is free after 6pm anyway.
We'll see you later!!!!

Click here to go to the UK Code of Non-Broadcasting Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (CAP Code). There are various sections in there that will help you understand what you can and can't do for Free Prize Draws and other promotions, as well as the rules you have to consider when collecting data from people.
If you don't have time to read the whole thing, bear in mind that when you're collecting customer details, as part of a free prize draw for example, you have to allow people to opt in or out of receiving further marketing information. e.g."Tick here if you do NOT wish to receive further marketing information from us".
If you're running any kind of competition, then you also need to provide the terms and conditions of that promotion, so that people know what it does and doesn't include, and what the rules and regulations are around that competition. Things you need to put in your terms and conditions include:
If you're running a free prize draw, you shouldn't have to purchase anything to be included in that draw. If you're running a competition, there has to be an element of skill involved in the competition entry (eg answering questions, spotting the ball, writing a sloglan etc).

To make 1st Thursday the tastiest day of the month, the team are bringing six of the hottest street food traders in the Midlands from the Scoff Street Food collective to the town centre.
Hungry shoppers can tuck into speciality chicken and lamb dishes, feast on gourmet hotdogs, enjoy guilt free vegan snacks , relish gourmet toasties and sink into freshly made waffles piled with sweet treats.
Fans of Tex Mex food should head over to The Hungry Toad for their signature dish. Free range chicken, fried in buttermilk and their secret coating, served with choice of toppings and homemade hot sauce, honey and lemon, seasame seed or blue cheese dressing.
Savanna Grill specialises in South African street food, and their dishes for the night include the mighty meat feast Bunny chow – a lamb curry served inside a hollowed out loaf of bread and homemade biltong – air-dried beef marinated in coriander and spices.
Putting a healthy twist on junk food, The Vegan Grind House has their own take on the classic American Philly Cheesesteak. Their version is a freshly baked sub roll filled with marinated seitan steak strips, mushrooms, onions and jalapenos, topped with their homemade nacho cheese sauce.
After eight months of research, The Jabberwocky is premiering a new gourmet toastie. The Scotch Egg toastie is full of free range egg, covered in cheese and with sausage meat from a local butcher.
Gourmet hot dog fans will remember ‘The Edna’ from Big Daddies Diner’s previous visit to Rugby Food Festival. This is an all beef dog in brioche bun served with lashings of homemade beef chili, dressed with cheese and homemade jalepeno relish. Not for the fainthearted!
Those with a sweet tooth won’t be left out. For dessert The Bournville Waffle Company will be serving Rocky Road waffles with marshmallows, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chunks with freshly whipped cream and chocolate sauce from their pretty, pastel converted ice cream van.
For the chair of the 1st Thursdays team Simon Ainley, it was an easy decision to locate the street food market on Jubilee Gardens. He says “Right in the heart of the town centre we have this lovely triangle of grass, trees and benches in which to soak up the delicious tastes and aromas of our street food chefs. It is an underused public space that we are delighted to be able to make the most of for our late night shopping extravaganza.”
From 5 – 8pm visitors can eat alfresco and relax under gazebos in Jubilee Gardens to the soothing sounds of local musicians Ben Watts, Kate and the Moon Cats, Becki and The Dove and The Rattletones.
Appetites will also be sated by shopping for locally produced cheese, pickles and other deli delights inside the Clock Towers and savouring hot dogs and burgers crafted from locally reared pork by the Red Banger outside Rugby Tap.
Churchside Arcase based Papillion Café Bar is in! To celebrate the 1st Thursday promotion, Papillion will be offering a free take-away coffee to anyone who pops in between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday 5th March.

Love Rugby, and the 1st Thursday events, have been set up by a group of Rugby retailers and businesses who are passionate about making our town, and our businesses, a success.
It's been estimated that £80million pounds is spent in surrounding towns like Leamington Spa and Warwick, by people who actually live in, and close to, Rugby. There's plenty of shops that could benefit from that £80million spend in Rugby itself! There are also various Retail Parks being built on the edge of town. We need to remind people that there's lots here for them here in Rugby Town Centre, so that they don't forget about us when the Retail Parks are up and running later this year.
By taking part in 1st Thursdays, you get to be part of something exciting and new, and you also get to benefit from the extra spending opportunities that we're opening up to shoppers. You get to be part of a bigger community, all of whom are encouraging the townsfolk to come into town and boost our local economy.
1st Thursdays are being supported by a variety of advertising and marketing campaigns, all of which you can be included in. Free Marketing Workshops are being held, so you can get some great tips about marketing that you can keep on using to get people in to your shop.
We know that it's been difficult over the past few years, and we know that there are number of empty shops in the town, but pulling together to support initiatives like 1st Thursdays are what's going to help us make our shops busier and our businesses more profitable.
To be part of this, all you have to do is stay open until 8pm on the 1st Thursday of every month. The more shops that are open, the more successful the event will be. The more successful the event is, the more people will choose to shop in Rugby Town Centre. And the more people who shop here, the more other businesses will want to become part of our community.
Be part of it, and help make the whole of Rugby Town Centre a fantastic place to be - sign up to 1st Thursdays today.
Not everyone who's signed up for 1st Thursdays has defined their promotions yet, but keep your eyes out for something from Gymophobics (on St Matthews Street) and Mirror Mirror Dress Agency (in Churchside Arcade). More and more shops are signing up all the time, so keep visiting the site to see what else you can expect to see on March 5th.
Visit Nadine Rose in Churchside Arcade during the 1st Thursday event on 5th March and you'll be able to take advantage of the 50% she's offering on ceramics for that evening only.
Visit the website www.nadinerose.co.uk to have a look at the great range of products that she sells. If you're looking for something a little bit different, you'll definitely find it here.
Vanilla Lifestyle on Albert Street is proud to be part of the 1st Thursdays initiative.
Come in between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday 5th March, spend more than £5 and you can enter the fabulous lucky dip. There'll be a whole variety of prizes on offer, from bath bombs to scented candles to gift vouchers up to the value of £30.
We'll see you there!!!
Bargain Booze on Clifton Road are exited to be part of the 1st Thursdays initiative.

We've been collecting feedback and talking about 1st Thursdays, but they're really happening! We've got some funding to do a great big marketing campaign so we need to get all of our local retailers on board.
Retailers and town centre businesses will be receiving all the information you need in the newsletter from the Rugby Bid next week. When you've had a good look, make sure you come back to this website and sign up as a participant of 1st Thursdays. If you need any more information, you can get in touch and we'll come and tell you anything you want to know about it.
Once you've decided that you're joining in - and why wouldn't you? It's fantastic idea - you need to let us know what you want to do on the night to tempt even more people in to your shop. If you're struggling for ideas we'll be holding workshops that you can come along to, and we'll help you work out what you could do in your business and how you can tell everyone about it.
If you're not a retailer, but you agree with us that 1st Thursdays are a great idea, make sure you tell all of your friends and lobby your favourite shopkeepers so that they will definitely take part.
1st Thursdays are going to happen. Let's all work together to make them fantastic.
Regent Street based Etcetera is on board with 1st Thursdays, and will be running a fantastic raffle during the event. Come in to the shop on the evening of the 5th March to buy your ticket and you'll be entered into the raffle. First Prize is a Radley Handbag. Remember, you've got to be in it to win it!!
If you're thinking of getting married, Cinnamon & Marmalade on Albert Street is the place to visit on March 5th. They'll be celebrating 1st Thursday with a mini Wedding Fair. It's not just about the party stuff, although obviously all of their party stuff is fabulous (!), they'll also have all sorts of other people in there like the florist, the cake maker and the photographer. Whatever you need, all under one roof.
And you don't need to be getting married to have an excuse to pop in. Whatever sort of party you're throwing, they've got everything you could want - whether you knew you wanted it or not!

From the 5th March 2015, the 1st Thursday of every month will see a Rugby Town Centre Extravaganza from 5pm - 8pm!
Town Centre Retailers are getting together to breathe life back into Rugby. As part of the plan to make the town a great destination, we will be holding 1st Thursday events every month. There'll be entertainment on the streets - from music, to comedians, to actors. Who knows, there may even be fire eaters! As well as entertainment, there'll be street food, offering something different for everyone. The shops and will be open, so you'll be able to get an evening appointment with your optician or go and treat yourself to something new in one of the clothes shops. There'll be all sorts of promotions too, from wine tastings to fashion shows, tea parties to flower arranging demonstrations, whatever you would like to see in the town, we'll be trying to make sure it's happening!
Workers can leave their offices and wander straight into the festival atmosphere. Families can come in and enjoy the activities. Whatever you're doing in Rugby, you'll have fun. After enjoying the entertainment, activities and shopping that late night 1st Thursday has to offer, stay and eat at one of the local cafés or restaurants, rather than go home and start cooking.
Love Rugby Town is simply the name that's been given to a group of local retailers and business owners who all love our town. We know that things haven't been brilliant for everyone in the town over the past few years, and we're aware that there are a number of challenges that will be facing us in the future, but the Love Rugby Town team have decided that we're fed up of negative attitudes and are going to go out there and do something for ourselves.
There's actually a lot to celebrate about our town, from the beautiful architecture to the variety of shops that we have and the great places to meet friends and to eat. Our town has a really rich heritage too, one that we should all be proud of, so it's time to stop complaining about what we haven't got here, and take pride in what we do have.
Over time we hope to be doing more and more to make everyone else feel the way that we do, and to get them to fall in love with Rugby Town again, but to start with we're going to make the town centre come alive after five once a month. 1st Thursdays will be evenings filled with fun and entertainment and remind everyone of what a great variety of shops and local outlets we do have on our doorstep.
